Our World Community...and how you can help

Hello My Lovelies!

It has been two years since my last visit to The Seeds of Love and Hope International Society Community Center in Medellin, Colombia, and I am thrilled and over joyed to announce that I will be returning March 10th, 2016. And even more exciting Steve and Aiden will be accompanying me for their first time! Also our nephew, Evan, will be coming with us as well, which will be such a treat.

the neighbourhood

A brief back story. This will be my fifth time going down to volunteer at the center. My first time was back in 2009, (Nathen came with me), and I my heart was ever change and truly a piece of it remained, and still remains. I did not return till 2012 as we were unable to go as a group due to the violence not only in the city but in the ghetto neighbourhood of our community center. I then went back in 2013 and also 2014 with Nathen returning with me, along with my brother and niece, (yes I am recruiting my family lol). The first two years I went I did hair services, setting up a little make shift hair studio for the children and moms of the community. For the last two years I have been conducting one on one and group sessions with the kids in our program and the women who work at our center, along with some of the moms of the kids who are in our program. I have been listening to them and collecting their stories for a book I plan to put out about this community and some of my experiences there. This year I will be my last year of interviews and also I am contemplating setting up a hair studio again as I will be going for over two weeks this time as opposed to our usual 10 days. While we are there, Steve will be setting up vegetable gardens as self-sustainability and community service is a huge part of our program down there. The garden would not be able to sustain what the center needs for the meals we provide but it will assist in supplementing the need and also it will get the children involved in learning how to create and tend to a garden as
they will be the ones taking care of it.

a typical family kitchen

We are excited to be a part of this wonderful place
and I am so looking forward
to sharing my “other family” with Steve and Aiden.

the caretakers home at the center

So as I have done in the past I am putting a call out to anyone who would like to contribute in a financial way to this cause. What I have found since my very first trip is that always, when we are there, unexpected needs come up within the community that we are assisting. Things like emergency medical services, transport back and forth from appointments, medicine costs, housing costs, basic food needs not being met, shoes, clothing….and more. I quickly learned that having cash on hand when I go down has been a very good practice. This is where you come in, if you are interested. Your donation would come directly with me, down to the center and I will distribute it directly to the need at hand. This will be my fourth year doing this and I have collected up to $1500 from all over the world. Donations run from $10 to $100, and let me tell you, in a third world country a little goes a long long way. Some of your money may also go towards some of the supplies Steve will need for the garden start up and also maybe put toward the gifts bag that I put together every visit for our staff there…12 women 2 men….

NONE of your money will be put toward our personal trip costs!

The Community Center which is behind the caretakers home...offices/classrooms and then the mess hall and kitchen

That is important for you to know. Whatever is left over will stay at the center in the hands of our very capable coordinator, and she will put it where it is needed.
One year we were able to buy a much needed industrial fridge for the kitchen with the money I gathered from generous hearts.

There is one catch to all of  this.
There is no tax receipt for this donation.
So if this is important to you and you would like to contribute then I invite you to go here http://www.solahis.com/ and donate directly.
But if you are interested in sending your money directly to the trenches and hearing back from me about where it went, then I invite you to respond to this post or email me at catscorner@telus.net and we can discuss further.
I am even open to requests if you have something specific on your heart. I so appreciate you reading this. I also invite your prayers, good thoughts and love as we travel down.
That our eyes and hearts be open to all that is happening around us and
that where there is a need,
we might rise to meet it.

Love and Light my Lovelies

A Mindful Journey...Day 5

"There is something bigger than fact: the underlying spirit, all it stands for, the mood, the vastness, the Western breath of go-to-the-devil-if-you-don"t like it, the eternal big spaceness of it. Oh the West!  I'm of it and I love it."
-Emily Carr *Hundreds and Thousands, 1966*

(a card in my mail box yesterday from a certain Noisy Plume to brighten my day!)

these are the gifts of sisterhood
*
5 am
Morning Meditation
"Finding Balance"
of course there are no accidents...
As of yesterday I have been feeling unbalance
too much chewing on some events of the day

I head out after meditation
for a bike ride "around the world"
with my pup.
I was in my head.
chewing chewing
How do I move from mind to heart
As I bike in the early morning;
my shoes and pants getting wet
from the morning dew on the tall field grass;
as the Herons fly above and sit on the waters edge
as the eagle flies over head;
I ask for guidance from Creator
as I look at the bounty of Creation
I know where to go to for the assistance I need

I want to change the name of this journey
from mindful
to
soul-full
I don't want it to be about the lists
or the to dos
Though there are things to accomplish
it is not the doing that matters
it is the learning, the opening, the growing
because of doing
that is my focus.
I breathe deep as I take in the beauty
the natural beauty that has nothing to do with man
and I know
I can move past the chatter in my head
I know I can be guided out
and by the end of the 10 km ride
I am finding my way out.

9:00am
Hatha Yoga
(this is my favorite yoga class)
today our class focuses on purification
the process of purification
and what the meant to each of us
beautiful
I could feel myself breaking free
and it was during this practice
that I decided
today
I am Eagle

So through the rest of the day
I flew
high in the sky
wind in my face
the feeling of feathers again my skin
rising above all that would distract
all that would weigh down

Today I was Eagle
and I soared.

tonight I enjoy a glass of Malbec
and some tv
tomorrow I begin a weeks fast with my sisters
at SouLodge...
thank you for walking this trail with me
lovelies
What has been on your trails today?

A Mindful Journey...Day 4

5:15 am
morning meditation:
"Observe Your Thoughts"
5:45 am
a misty morning gentle walk
with my favourite four-legged companion

 with beaver
didn't have the right lens for this shot...but really...who cares? lol
 and heron
 and other jewels of Creation

9:00
Charka Yoga
there was moment
when we were to put ourselves into child pose
and make ourselves small
this brought thoughts to come...
thoughts of how, in the past, I had not trouble
 making myself small
how I would shrink myself away
hiding from Spirit
This has shifted
and I continue to learn
that now is the time to make myself big...
to reach my branches high to the sky.

Finally getting the physical I have been meaning to get.

An impromptu visit
with my "other" mom
She is terminally ill with cancer
only the 25th person in North America
to have this particular form

So when she called
I went
every moment precious
and a gift
We spoke of Angels
Self Love
and Forgiveness
She is wading through her new normal
trying to be brave...
I treasure this woman.

The day ended with
Boys, Burgers and video games

which means
testosteron
rough housing
arguing
and the youngest ending up in tears

But then the music comes
and all is forgotten
and what matters most
is that tonight
we were all together
and Love binds us there
no matter what...

A Mindful Journey Day 1, 2 & 3

Hello Lovelies!
I have decided to offer a window
to my 30 day Mindful Journey
here...
Blogging is part of my spirit...
I have been journaling
 for most of my life
and it seemed fitting to give witness
to these 30 day.
I will share a reflection of what
each new day of this journey brings;
whether it be an image
a story
an experience...
I hope you will bear witness
along side me.
 *

 Day 1
 A day of preparation
mentally, spiritually, physically
space being created
fresh food being bought
meditations chosen
I feel ready for these 30 days
Everything is falling into place
in every aspect of my life
telling me
this is a good time to go deep
with intention and soul/self care.

fresh flowers in my bathroom is my favorite thing...cut fresh from our garden by my husband is even better

One of the events that fell into place
for this journey to begin
came from the yoga studio I attend

The studio was hosting a challenge
a 10/10 challenge
10 days of TRX
10 Days of Yoga
in 29 days
+ 3 special classes for the 15 who take
The Challenge

You should know I have never attended
a TRX class before
Yoga- yes
TRX - no
So I was looking forward to our first
group class on this, Day 1;
introducing  any newbies to TRX or Yoga

My girlfriend is the owner of the studio
and our teacher for our 3 group classes
She is a true yogi
gathering us all together
inviting us to reach out to one another
if we see each other in our other classes
inviting us to encourage one another
as we travel together
comrades
and companions...

I like the way she thinks.

Day 2

biking down to an ocean inlet

SouLodge Sister and longtime sister-friend
as my journeying companion today

coming to the place of Eagle
whom we journey with
this month in SouLodge

Today we honour the soul-aspect
of this journey
as she too
is answering The Call and going deep
along side me
Joined by Eagle
Connected in Sisterhood
we make space to be...

 a gorgeous afternoon
of fresh healthy food
light wine
rich soul speak

Mama Ocean dances in the sun
hawk and eagle call out over head
and yellow finches sing songs in the trees
while four legged friends come by
to visit and swim
only leaving once they have baptized us
with Oceans life waters

we decided
fancy restaurants are no match,
to a clean lunch eaten with Mother Earth

*
Day 3

 5:00am
Relax, Relieve, Restore 15 day guided Meditation
" Quiet your Mind"
6:00am
my now second TRX class
full body workout
I loved it
it worked me
still trying to figure out the straps lol
but
and I still loved it

(back home for mama mode)

9:00am
Hot Flow Yoga
Hot
Yes
amazing how much heat our bodies can produce
I feel open and oh so beautiful
sweaty, hot, stripped down
I feel the goodness happening already
I have a good cry during Savasana
they came
and I let them
my body felt so alive
so open
so tired
so good
the tears came out of a place of gratitude
deep gratitude
I had thoughts of my deep healing
and they came
and with a smile on my face
and peace in my heart
I gave them place
to be...
*
when I came home it was time to nourish
my body
with the fruits of our garden

apparently there was someone else
who needed nourishing too....

fresh frozen blueberries (picked last year)
strawberries from our garden
almond coconut milk
coconut water
ground hemp and flax seed
a toss of coconut
a scoop of plain greek yogurt

  a drink perfect for a soul-journeyer

Cheers my lovelies!

now...with tea in hand
I bring this day to a close
feeling I am right where I need to be

As my dear journey-sister Marie says
"Life is good...
so very very good"

Love and Light
