Dreams...

Recently I had a conversation
with a dear sister about broken dreams.
Those that had been lost,
the ones that had not come true
and the pain and grief that comes with
this sort of thing.

She was sharing with me her own pain
from a dream that she had worked hard for
but it did not turn out as she had hoped/planned.
This happened many years ago
but the residue of disappointment
was still lingering
and she had found herself
again
walking through the grief and resentment
of this dream...THE DREAM
 not taking shape
as she had planned.

As she spoke to me
I could feel her emotions
as if they were mine.
And I listened intently
not only to her
but to the Light voice
that was pouring into me.
I had a message to give her
not right then
for she needed to talk
she needed to be heard
she needed to unload.
A few days later we saw each other again
and I had the opportunity
to share with her the message I had been given.
And not only was I able to pass it on
she was open to receive it.
(This is always such a blessing!)

The message was
that it had been A DREAM
not THE DREAM
that is all.
All had not been a waste
all had not been lost
there was purpose it what had happened....
*
This whole exchange
and her story
brought me to a place of reflection.
I brought myself to my own place
of broken and dead dreams
and I found again and again
the common actions of surrender...
and letting go.
Moving past my own ego
of how I thought it should be
and finding place of Trust.
Trusting the Powers that rules my fate.
Trusting a Bigger Picture that I am unable to see.
Believing that all things work for the Higher Good.
These were the tools I used/use to walk through
the grief and disappointment.
*
Granted
I know some dreams are harder to let go of
than others,
and this is something we all face
during our lives.
None of us walk with out the scars of disappointment.
*
I thought about
THE DREAM.

What if there is not just one dream?

The Spiritual realm,
compared to the limited
physical realm,
offers so much more in way of possibilities.
In our fleshy selves
we are limited to all that we are attached to.
But Spiritually, the possibilities are endless,
as vast as the Universe Herself.
So in that context:

What if there is not just ONE DREAM
that fulfills our purpose here?
What if it is many different dreams...
some that come to full bloom,
along with those whose buds don't quite open?
And it is in these successes and failures
our very purpose is found.
What if Spiritually
we are not limited to ONE
but lent to many?

What do you think
my lovelies?
One dream or many?
Are the dreams that die as important
as the dreams that flourish?
Share with me your thoughts...

  1. This really touched every part of me.
..because it's true- we all know how this feels- I think we even know how this feels at a very young age. Of course, as we grow older, we assign more importance to many dreams- we make it a goal- we think of income- we think of personal growth- how others are viewing us- social status- etc...

I think letting go of a really big dream can be rally painful- I can understand feeling upset years later- being a maker I struggle with those sorts of feelings almost daily.
...but I think every big dream a.k.a. "the dream" has a tail of a million other small dreams behind it- and I think those small dreams can always be looked at- they can be given power- and they can lead you to another dream- a "sister" dream- where one can be just as happy/content if not more.

  2. Excellent, Excellent, topic.....and well thought out, Catherine
Are the dreams that die as important as the dreams that flourish?
If my heart aches...I know I was truly blessed
If my heart longs....I know there is more spiritual work to be done

"We are not limited to one but lent to many"
Your words touched my heart and I take them with me

    Thank you

  3. oh, this post is so beautiful and thought-provoking.

letting go of the dreams or the plans that don't go as we planned is all part of the process and of course, they're all equally important. i'm a firm believer that only when we surrender to non-attachment to any one particular outcome, do our dreams take shape.

it's tricky...sometimes we have to be specific but the universe rarely works that way...and sometimes we think all we need is the dream but don't take the action required for those dreams to take off. being open, in trust, in faith of something, of ourselves, of the bigger picture, feeling the hurt but not dwelling there, allows something bigger to come through.

i don't think there's just one dream. not at all. and i also don't think they ever really die or become impossible...if there's something that we really, truly want to do in our hearts, there is always way. the word perseverance comes to mind.

      love your thoughts...
i do agree there is always a way...though there always is some kind of transformation it seems..either within us, or around us....
so maybe the dream ebbs into something that we did not envision to begin with, but the result is the same...

thanks for your thoughts, and for being here!

  7. Like others have said, I believe that when we can truly surrender the dream, then it may become realized. From my own experience, what comes after the surrender may not be what I thought or "dreamed" but it is equally as good if not better than the dream itself. For some reason this post has made me think of that story of a new parent whose child is born with a disease. Later on in his life the parent explains it this way...when I dreamed of a healthy baby and raising a healthy child, it was like dreaming of a trip to Italy. Everything was exciting and we would do and see so many things. Instead we got a trip to Holland...equally interesting and enjoyable, just different then we had planned. For me, I have been on this trip to Holland (literally and figuratively) and it did turn out great!!

  8. Definitely many dreams. And they do not have to be big and flashy, but sometimes small and subtle. And they are all very perfect! So beautiful that you were able to pass along the message to your friend. xoxo

  9. You asked about dreams, I always go away and think...
Tonight I have just finished watching UK X Factor final, they spoke of the winner she dreamed for twenty years of becoming a singer while working as a prison officer...they said she was a voice for all women, especially for the ones who are feeling their years going by, about their dreams, keeping them alive... I agree, little dreams are being fulfilled everyday and sometimes big dreams. No matter whether small or large they all count...Her new release says it all - Sky Scraper ~ Sam Bailey.

  10. I agree it is many, I always say that the grief people face when they realize their "dream" is just not going to happen is heartbreaking. We get set on the fact that our life has one purpose and when we think we see a clear path to that, the diversion can be devastating. My daughters are in their 20's and I have always thought that I am pained to think of the grief their going to experience when they realize that dream, those particular dreams are not going to happen, you just hope they can see past, as we all must at some point. Love this post, spot on. Always timely, thank you
